A T20 Miracle for the ages
Date of Event North Geelong Cricket Club : Tue Nov 26, 2019 8:38PM

Tonight we witnessed a T20 that had all the ups and downs, eventually resulting in our boys getting the win through a Bowl Off.

An undermanned North Geelong took to the field tonight with 6 late changes from the selected side on Sunday afternoon. Lachy Hayes couldn’t find his rhythm early and it took a surprising bowling move of bringing Sam Hall onto bowl to swing the game back in our favour. Cal Ferguson continued to impress with the ball as he finished with our neatest bowling figures of 2/15 from his allotted 4.

Chasing 147 to win, the game looked lost early when Hally fell and we were 2/15. Blake Troy and Lachy Szponar steadied the ship however the run rate was increasing. When Blake fell in the 12th over we required 76 from 52 balls, an equation that was getting out of hand. Enter Alistair McCann… Big Soup Guts ploughed balls into the Joeys Training Facility and then a huge one that went over the Joeys School block roof. His Cameo 16 ball innings came to an end when he went 1 ball too many, however he had knocked 46 off the total and got the guys within striking distance. We then lost 4/3 and the game was back in Joeys favour. The scenario was 19 runs from 18 balls with our last 2 bats in, Lachy Hayes and Shaun Kingwell. In years gone past the game wouldn’t have made it to the last over however both guys showed a mature head and took the game deep. Needing 4 to win from the last ball Hayesy whacked a ball through covers and the guys scampered through for 3 runs meaning we we’re heading to a Super Over.

Batting first in the Super Over, Hally and Soup were our 2 openers with Hally finding the boundary on the 4th ball. Alistair then hit the last ball over cover and the guys made the most of an overthrow and scampered through for 4 all run meaning we finished with 12 from our 6 balls.

Cal Ferguson was given the ball for us to bowl us to victory. First ball dot, 2nd ball 2, 3rd ball 4 and then 4th ball a run out. Meaning Joeys needed 7 to win from the last 2 balls. The 5th ball went for 4 meaning they needed 3 from the last. As the night would go Joeys could only manage 2 leaving everyone at the ground stunned as to what happens next. It was determined that a bowl off was the best option with 5 bowlers bowling 2 balls each.

Kingy was first up for us and he hit once. Joeys missed. Hayesy then hit once as Joeys missed again. Blake missed both of his as Joeys didn’t make us pay. Cal Ferg then couldn’t find the target as Joeys were let back in. They still couldn’t hit leaving the man of the moment Soup Guts to be the match winner and hit the stumps with his first attempt meaning we had won the game 3 to 0 and keep our winning record intact. We now turn or focus back to Red Ball Cricket and BPH this weekend, before tackling Newtown in a do or die T20 in a fortnights time.
