The boys made it 2 from 2 on the back of an outstanding bowling performance in tonight’s T20 against Murgheboluc.
Batting first our guys started slowly in tough conditions, to their credit Murghie fielded really well and made scoring in the ring really tough. Fergy walked to the wicket at 1/8 and proceeded to bat thru the innings and be the rock at one end. He top scored with 50* in what was a patient innings. Cossie was the only other batsman to reach double figures, however T20 debutant Cal Ferguson was well on his way with a quick fire 9* off just 5 balls. His little cameo at the end brought us to a total of 8/119.
With Murghie only needing a run a ball to win the game the bowlers really stood up and delivered. Lachy Hayes started things off with a maiden. Tom Mathieson backed it up with a tight over and Murghie were on the back foot early. Mitch Troy grabbed a wicket in the 5th over just as Murghie looked to put the foot down. After 6 overs, a heavy downpour of rain seen the players race off the ground. 10 minutes were lost and with Murghie behind the run rate, the score was reduced to 108 from 18 overs. Alistair McCann was then introduced and just like Sunday he swung the game into his sides favour. He grabbed 2 big wickets of arguably Murgheboluc’s 2 best batsmen and from there the game was all but done. Cal Ferg, backing up his cameo with the bat also looked good with the ball but it was hard to fault any of the bowlers as they certainly won the guys the game.
We now push on to Saturday cricket with the weather looking like finally improving. We got our first look at Murghie tonight, and we’ll see more of them over the next 2 weeks as we tackle them out at Osborne Park once again.
